Baraja: "tHE TEAM kePT going AND COMPETED UNTIL THE END"
The Valencia CF coach talks after the 2-2 result against Deportivo Alavés
The coach previews the game against Getafe CF
Before Valencia CF's Sunday fixture against Getafe CF, coach Rúben Baraja talked to the media in his press conference.
Game preparation
"By working on the mental aspect. Trying to overcome the situation we are in. Thinking about the day-to-day work, doing things well. If we get a good result it changes everything".
The fanbase
"Nothing more than what they are giving. What I tried to send out the other day was a message requesting their support. It is fundamental in this difficult moment.
The fans are always there, and when we are in this situation having them by our side is a plus. It also helps our players. That is why I ask them to continue supporting us. They are kids, our players, and they also feel it. The interpretation I wanted was a message of support and unity. We also have to give them effort, hard work and results, of course".
Gayà
"He feels good and he has contributed. He gives us a lot. We have to see how he is and how he feels. He knows the moment we are in and his mentality is important. His absence has had a negative impact on the team".
Hugo Guillamón
He can play in the midfield or as a centre-back. He is a good professional and is prepared to perform anywhere.
"He has had a lot of games in a row, plenty of minutes, and he is important. He is always there, regardless of whether his performance is good or bad. That happened to me too. The team must know how to overcome his absence, and his teammates must try to take advantage of it. In terms of the suspension, what you cannot do is lose your nerve. We cannot lose perspective or enter into provocations. This is limiting the possibility of winning games. This happens when you have the stress of getting results on you. And this will stay with us".
We are not going to change the formation. We have players to replace Pepelu without making any changes to how we line up. We have to find solutions and it has to be the team that does that. We are prepared for that.
Team's mindset
After the match, the players were affected by the result. These things have an influence. During the week we have worked on recovering our self-esteem and working as a team in difficult moments. We have used this suffering as fuel to change the situation. We have to keep things in perspective and not get carried away by the situation. We can have a good game tomorrow and change the dynamic with a good result.
Coliseum
It's always a very tight game, with few opportunities. There could be only one chance, and it depends on to whom it falls. They are very aggressive going forward. They are intense, and good from set pieces and second balls, so you have to deal with that
Confidence
"I'm fine, calm. It's an unpleasant situation because when you're in a place where you want to be, where you have the ambition to achieve things and make the team grow, but the results aren't going your way, well, whenever this happens you have to be calm and strengthen yourself mentally and when it's more difficult, you have to show more character and keep a cooler head. I have the ambition, desire and energy to change the situation".
Valencia CF's setup (in the absence of Pepelu)
"We are not going to change it. Pepelu is important, but the team has players with other characteristics who can make up for his absence. It's a way that when a player is out, the team has to respond".
Hugo Duro
“When you don't finish well and you don't score, it's normal to have a dip in confidence. But he's a fighter and he'll get back to his feet. He has a good mentality, and we're going to help him with that. With those who make mistakes and have the mentality to keep fighting, I'll always support them. Those who aren't in that dynamic are not within my possibilities to help".
